Five Year Strategic Plan

The Five-Year Strategic Plan determines how the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCCD) will allocate funding to create systems change for individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) and family members through advocacy and capacity building activities.

This plan is the foundation of how the Council does its work across the state. GCDD gathers input from individuals with DD, family members, caregivers, siblings and the community-at-large to set the course of what the Council works on during the five years.

All GCDD efforts aim to ensure that people with DD are independent, have greater economic self-sufficiency, integrated and included in their respective communities, and leading self-determined lives.

2027-2031 Five-Year Strategic Plan

Goal 1: Inclusion

By 2031, GCDD will support changes at the state or local level so Georgians with IDD and their families can be fully included in their communities and live self-determined lives.

Objective 1.1:  Support at least 300 Georgians with IDD and their families to decrease loneliness and build relationships with people with and without disabilities through sustainable, replicable efforts that can be used across Georgia.

Objective 1.2: Support public policy and community initiatives that support people with IDD to be fully included in their communities and live self-determined lives.

Goal 2: Self-Advocacy

By 2031, GCDD will support at least 1,000 Georgians with IDD to grow their advocacy and live self-determined, economically secure lives, through sustainable efforts designed to expand statewide.

Objective 2.1: Each year, support a self-advocacy organization led by people with IDD; support leadership training and peer mentoring; and support participation of people with IDD in groups of leaders with different types of disabilities working together.

Objective 2.2: Support projects that promote inclusive career paths and increase economic security for Georgians with IDD.

Goal 3: Information

By 2031, GCDD will improve the lives of Georgians with IDD by providing accessible information on important topics and elevating the stories of Georgians with IDD and their families.

Objective 3.1: Each year, elevate stories that raise expectations of people with IDD and help the public see people with IDD as equal, respected members of their communities.

Objective 3.2: Improve the lives of people with IDD and their families by expanding access to important resources, information, and tools.
